The latest outing in the baraat series, Annie Ki Ayegi Baraat, has been the talk out of town since the first teaser went on air. The baraat series is a force to reckon with today. Every actor wants to be a part of it in some capacity. Fans wait the whole year to know who'll tie the knot this season.
This time, it gets bigger and better. The rumors are that this is the last season, and the makers have tried their best to make it the biggest of them all.
So, is it really worth it? Read on to find out!
The best part about it is that it continues from where it left. This time, the story revolves around Annie ( Naveen Waqar) who comes from abroad to get married. There are three men vying for the girl, which creates confusion, opens some secrets and provide the entertainment.
Like every season, this year we again got to see some side stories. There were differences between Azar (Ahsan Khan) and Sila (Alishba Yusuf). They also continued the nani's storyline with her finally marrying Bhanji.
The story, definitely, is a notch above the last season, which was nothing but a mess. However, this year too… it's more of a mess – an entertaining mess, actually!
The writer (Vasay Chauhdry) introduces too many characters and it becomes a khichdi. Fortunately, almost all the side tracks work; however, after a point, you yawn because there is too much happening.
For example, take Hina Dilpazeer's introduction. It was supposed to be the high point of the serial, but falls flat. The serial actually goes down post her introduction, in my honest opinion. It is a poorly crafted character, which is played brilliantly on screen. I wanted to see some interested scenes between Hina and Bushra, but we never got to see that.
One side track that stands like a sore thumb is that of Behroz Sabzwari's. The serial would've done better had they totally eliminated this one. Due to the presence of so many characters, they also couldn't do justice to several stories. Azar and Sila's story looks half baked to me. Well, it is still very good, but they could've done much more.
I have to admit, it is difficult to review a show of this magnitude. It's loved by everyone, is getting good numbers and stars some of the biggest names. But, then, a job is a job. I have to be honest here. The graph for AKYB goes zig-zag. It starts off really well, and then dips down, before picking up again.
As I mentioned earlier, this time the story actually has a purpose and moves at a great pace. There are no dull moments. The dialogues are good, especially those spoken by Bushra Ansari. The OST is fun, like always. The direction (Marina Khan and Nadeem Baig) is top notch. The directors pull off the most difficult scenes with perfection.
The editing is good and you don't feel dull at any moment. The camera angles are very good. It is one of the most well produced shows by the producers. The makers have paid attention to the wardrobe and art design, which looks good on screen.
From acting point of view, everyone scores. The serial has a certain aura, and all the actors play their part with perfection. Bushra Ansari proves yet again why she is among the best in the business with her great portrayal of the lovable character, Saima Chauhdry. Hina Dilpazeer is great but over acts (it's the character's demand). I, for once, didn't approve of her. Found her more to be irritating than likeable. Sorry, Hina, you were amazing, but something just didn't seem right.
Samina Ahmad brings a certain class to the character she plays. She is great in every scene, and so is Saba Hameed. After last year's debacle, she got ample screen space this time. Javed Sheikh englightens the screen every time, with his charisma, every time he appears. The actor takes to the role like a fish takes to water. Manzoor Qureshi is likeable in his role.
From the young generation, Alishba Yusuf leaves a mark with her sincere performance. Ahsan Khan reprises the same role in every serial. The actor is bland now. Sana Askari fails to impress. She over acts in parts and plays an underdog, when she isn't required to. Naveen Waqar springs a great surprise with a better dialogue delivery than one expects from her. The actress has amazing screen presence and is sure to catch more eye balls.
Shahzad Sheikh is good looking, but still raw. He isn't able to stand in front of the big names. Uroosa Siddiqui and Natasha Ali are excellent. The rest of the cast also does well, especially the actor who plays Hina's son.
Over all, this one had the potential to easily be the best in the series. Well, it still does come close, but falls below due to too many actors present. The narrative gets confusing after a certain point and you wonder why there are so many sidetracks. It's hard to understand why they had to enclose so many actors. But, never mind, the show still serves its purpose. It brings the house down and delivers what it promises – entertainment!
